Summer Camp

Teach Na nDaoine Summer Camp 2015

We are into the final week of our summer camp. So far we have had all kinds of activity, some messy, some wet, some tiring and some relaxing but all very enjoyable thanks to Mickey and the A Team.

We had visits to W5 the award winning science and discovery centre at Odyssey in Belfast and Funtasia in Drogheda with its Pirates cove interactive water park and of course the Atlantis Cove play area, a 14 lane bowling alley, Roller skating rink, crazy golf, rock climbing, a luxurious Casino, Pharaohs fast food restaurant, video games, simulators and lots lots more!

We went surfing in Bundoran and a great day was had by all. Yesterday(Tues) we had another visit to the Wellbeing Centre in Castleblayney and to-day we are hoping the weather keeps up for our sporting activities.

Thursday will see us winding down with some Dance and Arts activities in the morning and Presentation of Certificates at 2pm. All parents are invited to attend this presentation in Teach Na nDaoine Main Hall.

Friday will finish off the camp with a visit to The Chocolate Factory.

Week 2 of the Summer camp started off with an exciting all-day visit to Armagh Planetarium on Monday. We took part in all the activities available and really enjoyed “Launching Rockets” and also went to the “Astropark” and although there wasn’t the expected “Star Wars” Theme we really enjoyed the interactive exhibits and demonstrations. Other activities this week included art and recycling workshops and a very enjoyable Ceramics and Art workshop on Wednesday. We had good-weather for our walking tour of Monaghan and on Friday we visited the Belfast Zoo with the children getting great pleasure seeing all the animals. Many thanks to Nial O’Connor of Monaghan Co Co for his assistance and Breda from Busy Bee Ceramics for their input.
During week 3, we started off with a visit from Mervin the Magician, in Teach Na nDaoine Main Hall followed by sports and games. A very enjoyable visit was made to the Wellbeing Centre in Castleblayney and indoor Rock climbing followed by our trip down to Lake Muckno Playpark. The weather was again kind to us on Wednesday when we had the picnic in Rossmore followed by games quizzes and sporting activities. Monaghan leisure centre was the venue for our swimming trip on Thursday and we had great day at Tayto Park on Friday where the children and volunteers had a wonderful experience on the rides and in the Eagle Sky adventure zone. Children and volunteers are really looking forward to another exciting week as our camp enters its second half. Thanks to Mary Fitzpatrick for providing our transport, to the staff of the Wellbeing Centre and Stephan the chef, for their kindness and attention to our needs.

Compliments to Mickey Bravender and The “A Team” for the massive effort they are making to ensure the children have fun.

Teach Na nDaoine Summer Camp 2015
Our 2015 Summer Camp kicked off to a great start on Monday 6th July with all available places filled. Activities during this first week included Soccer and other sporting events and games. All the children looked great in their football kit and I’m sure if Man United had a talent scout there, he would have been busy writing down names. A visit to the Wellbeing Centre followed by Outdoor Pursuits was enjoyed by all. Swimming in Monaghan Leisure Complex on Thursday showed a couple of Olympic possible future medal winners. An all day visit to Rathbeggan Farm on Friday was the highlight of the week with a lot of tired but happy children and volunteers returning after 6 O’Clock on Friday night. Many thanks to our helpers and keep up the good work.
